Check out Australia Zoo’s Superb Parrot!

The beautiful Superb Parrot is just one of the many bird species that call Grace’s Bird Garden home. Take a stroll through our Grace’s Bird Garden and see them for yourself up close and personal!

The Superb Parrot is only found in south-eastern Australia, specifically in the Riverina region of New South Wales and Victoria. These birds are quite unique and have dual habitat requirements; they breed and feed in two different areas. They love to eat fruits, seeds of grasses and plants, nectar, flowers and specific insects.

During breeding season, the Superb Parrots will nest in tree hollows, often along rivers. The eggs are laid at the bottom of the hollow and the female will incubate it the whole time, with the male bringing her food. Great teamwork!

Unfortunately, Superb Parrots are considered vulnerable in the wild. As they need trees with hollows to nest, deforestation has impacted them. Visit them today to further understand how we can protect them!
