Sacred Kingfisher

Check out Australia Zoo’s Sacred Kingfisher

Grace’s Bird Garden is home to an amazing variety of bird life, including the Sacred Kingfisher. These gorgeous birds can be spotted sitting perched in the trees, so make sure you drop by and say g‘day!

These gorgeous birds can be found living in woodlands, mangroves and paperbark forests, tall open eucalypt forest and melaleuca forest. This species is quite common and is distributed across coastland regions of Australia. You can also find them on nearby islands and New Zealand!

The Sacred Kingfisher likes to snack on crustaceans, reptiles, insects and occasionally even fish! They will remain perched on low branches until they spot their prey, where they will swoop down and catch it in their beak. Impressive!

They generally enjoy their alone time, and will only pair up during the mating season. They have adapted well to life in suburbia and are a species of least concern. Woo-hoo!
