Crocodile Environmental Park

The Crocodile Environmental Park was opened in 1987, an area designed to replicate the billabongs of northern Queensland and act as a safe haven for rescued wild crocodiles. It was built by Steve himself and became a wildly popular spot for daily crocodile demonstrations. It is also where Steve and Terri met for the first time, marking the beginning of a spectacular love story and an era of protection for wildlife and wild places from the conservation legacy they created together.
Steve Terri
The pandanus-lined billabongs form a beautiful home for some of our original crocs, like Agro. You might remember Agro from Steve’s original series, The Crocodile Hunter! He has been at Australia Zoo since 1988, after he was frequenting public areas and seen as a ‘problem crocodile’. His fate would have been different if Steve didn’t rescue him and give him a home…and what a stunning home it is! The area has been renovated in recent years, but the original ponds remain the same size, which is a testament to Steve, and his commitment to ensuring our animals have had the best homes from the beginning. You may also spot the original grandstand and Steve’s old boat there, too!

What’s more you ask? The park is also home to Croc School, where guests can learn about crocodile conservation and how Australia Zoo and Wildlife Warriors research crocodiles. Our study is the largest crocodilian study on the planet, and something we’re proud to continue to this day.

Join us in celebrating Steve’s legacy by visiting Australia Zoo’s crocodile Environmental Park and see our wonderful crocodilians for yourself!
