Without a doubt, the most exciting crocodile of Croc Trip 2023 was Captain America. He was a 15 foot giant, caught in a new trap downstream of the Wenlock River. In fact, due to his sheer size and girth, we initially thought he was Big Dunc! However, with remnants of a satellite tracker on his back, no missing foot like Big Dunc, nor an acoustic tag or microchip, his identity was a mystery!
The Crocodile Research Team spent hours searching our records to help solve the case, and eventually deduced he must have been a croc Steve caught in 2004! In fact, by comparing archive photos, it was discovered that Captain America was actually Wheldon.
Wheldon was a part of Steve’s Crocs in Space research, using satellite technology to rewrite textbooks and prove that the practice of relocating crocodiles deemed as a problem by the government was not working. We are over the moon to have met Wheldon again, and know that he has beaten the odds to make it to Boss Croc Status.
