We were so excited to see Captain America again in 2024! Captain America must have had a busy year protecting his territory, as he was missing the tip of his tail. This doesn’t mean that he is any less in the running for ‘boss croc’ status as he is still one of our biggest in the study!
It was in 2023 that we first got acquainted with Captain America. He was a 15 foot giant, caught in a new trap downstream of the Wenlock River. In fact, due to his sheer size and girth, we initially thought he was Big Dunc! However, with remnants of a satellite tracker on his back, no missing foot like Big Dunc, nor an acoustic tag or microchip, his identity was a mystery!
Last year, the Crocodile Research Team spent hours searching our records to help solve the case, and eventually deduced he may have been a croc Steve caught in 2004 – Weldon!
Weldon was a part of Steve’s Crocs in Space research, using satellite technology to rewrite textbooks and prove that the practice of relocating crocodiles deemed as a problem by the government was not working.
