Elsie was first hand captured in 2014 at just 1.4 metres (4 feet 5.5 inches) and after another visit in 2020, she disappeared from our tracking system. This can happen sometimes as crocs move out of the river and beyond our hydrophone array, the tag may fall out or sadly, they may not survive. So we were incredibly excited to see Elsie in 2025! We were able to fit her with a satellite tracker for the first time, meaning that she’ll help us finally start to fill in the gaps in our understanding of saltwater crocodiles.
